| Baltimore Boychoir Festival - 2006
The Maryland State Boychoir served as the host for the 6th Annual Baltimore Boychoir Festival and was pleased to have Dr. Judy Bowers as our guest
director. This year's Festival took place on Friday,
May 19 and Saturday, May 20 and drew over 300 talented young men from
across the United States together for two days, allowing them the
opportunity to strengthen their skills, celebrate their art, and deepen
their sense of community. Our intent and goal are always to bring together boys
and young men who have one thing in common, "a love of singing."
Guest Director, Dr. Judy Bowers is currently Professor of Choral Music
Education at Florida State University. She holds music degrees from
Louisiana State University and Texas Tech University. As a choral
educator, she is an active conductor of all-state and honor choirs
across the United States. Bowers frequently presents workshops and
clinics for teachers, and her research interests include learning
partnerships, developmental choral groups, the adolescent voice change,
and at-risk music students. From 1990-2000, Bowers led the Capital
Children's Choir program at FSU and more recently has developed a
community service partnership with an inner city school. Since 2000,
this collaboration has provided additional music ensembles for the
middle school students while also enriching the teacher preparation
experience for Florida State University students.
