| Baltimore Boychoir Festival - 2007
The Maryland State Boychoir was pleased to serve as hosts for the 8th Annual Baltimore Boychoir Festival which was held Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19 2007. The festival featured Dr. Z. Randall Stroope as our guest director. This Festival drew over 300 talented young men from across the United States together for two days, allowing them the opportunity to strengthen their skills, celebrate their art, and deepen their sense of community. Our intent and goal are always to bring together boys and young men who have one thing in common, "a love of singing."
Guest Director, Dr. Randy Stroope is widely known as a conductor, lecturer, and composer. He is the Artistic Director of a summer music festival in England, and frequently conducts in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Washington National Cathedral and other well-known venues in the United States.
Choral groups under his direction have taken 35 national tours and 15 international tours, including China, Japan, Russia, Sweden, the Baltics, Finland, and central Europe, England, Canada, and South Africa. He is constantly sought after as a lecturer and guest conductor, headlining summer ACDA conventions in 12 states and conducting 20 All-State choirs.
Dr. Stroope studied composition with Cecil Effinger and Normand Lockwood, both students of Nadia Boulanger. Stroope has published 80 musical works, and has sold over a million and a half copies of music.
Z. Randall Stroope is Director of Choral Activities at the prestigious Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, where he directs the RU Concert Choir and teaches conducting and other classes.
