Description: Cantate Chamber Singers presents A Crown of Stars featuring the Maryland State Boychoir – veterans of recordings, American and European tours, and radio and television. The concert’s first half features the Boychoir, under Artistic Director Stephen Holmes, performing favorites from the Renaissance to world and folk music, as well as a world premiere piece written for the group by Cantate Composer-in-residence Andrew Earle Simpson entitled “Sing, O Daughter of Zion.” Then Gisèle Becker leads Cantate and orchestra, the Boychoir, soprano Lisa Edwards-Burrs, and tenor Joseph Dietrich in Simpson’s inventively scored wedding oratorio A Crown of Stars. Commissioned by Cantate in 2006, the oratorio is a festive and moving musical adventure, drawing on texts from around the world and throughout history to celebrate marriage from a universal perspective.
